WHAT IS THE CONSTITUTION PIPELINE?

The Constitution Pipeline Company, LLC (Constitution) proposes to construct the Constitution Pipeline project, which as proposed, would involve the construction, installation, and operation of approximately 99 miles of new natural gas pipeline within Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Schoharie Counties in New York.

In Schohaire the pipeline is proposed to run through the following municipalities: Jefferson, Summit, Richmondville, Cobleskill, Middleburgh, Schoharie and Wright.

WHAT IS FERC?

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is an independent U.S. federal agency that regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas, and oil. FERC also reviews proposals to build interstate natural gas pipelines, natural gas storage projects, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, in addition to licensing non-federal hydropower projects. FERC is composed of up to five commissioners who are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate to staggered five-year terms.
WHAT PART OF THE PROCESS IS THE PIPELINE PROPOSAL IN?

On December 19th, 2025, The Constitution Pipeline petitioned the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to reissue its construction permit from 2014. They have not resubmitted a new application or provided any additional details addressing DEC concerns. On January 8, 2026, FERC responded to the petition and set January 29, 2026 at 5 pm as the deadline for intervening and submitting public comments.
Standing together against the pipeline also means standing for each other, and for righting historical wrongs in the ways that we can in this generation.
